Summary
- What Business Central does: Creates, issues and emails reminders on a schedule, with fees, interest and the overdue invoices attached.
- What it doesn’t do: anything after the customer replies - reading the reply, recording a promised payment date, finding the right contact or escalating to sales.
If you need more than scheduled reminders, here’s where to look, from cheapest to most expensive (prices from October 2026):
- Automated calls as well as email: Chaser, from £199/month.
- AI that handles replies and escalations (with you approving): Trove, £285/month.
- Enterprise payment matching and credit risk: Kolleno, on its Enterprise plan (price on request).
What Business Central’s built-in reminders do
You set up reminder terms once and reminder automation then runs them through a job queue. From there, Business Central:
- creates, issues and emails reminders on a weekly, monthly or on a custom schedule
- attaches the overdue invoices as PDFs
- writes each reminder in the customer’s language
You’ll need email set up in Business Central for the send step.
Where Business Central’s reminders stop
Microsoft’s documentation describes reminders as documents: created, issued and sent on a schedule. Everything that happens after a customer replies is still down to you, usually in Outlook:
- reading replies and acting on them
- recording the date a customer promises to pay. For small invoices most people don’t have time, so the cash forecast is never quite right
- finding the right finance contact when the invoice went to the person who placed the order, not their accounts team
- escalating late payers to the account manager who owns them, with a record of every chase
- keeping other systems in sync: Salesforce, Hubspot, Attio
What to look for in credit control software for Business Central
Essentials: it syncs customers, invoices and payments from Business Central, stops chasing the moment a payment is posted, and sends from your own Outlook address. If you run more than one company in Business Central, it should also support multi-entity.
Nice to have: it reads replies and turns them into expected payment dates, holds reminders on disputed invoices, escalates to the account manager with the full history, and lets you review every action before it goes. A link to your CRM helps it find the right contact and account owner.

Trove and Business Central
Trove connects to Business Central on the Advanced plan, alongside HubSpot, Outlook and Teams. Here’s what it does:
- Syncs with Business Central in real time. When a payment is posted, Trove resolves any reminder or follow-up still due on that invoice.
- Reads customer replies. When a customer replies, Trove reads it and creates a task, such as updating the expected payment date or scheduling a follow-up.
- Lets you approve each action. You approve every task. Once you’re happy with a type of task, you can tick a box to let Trove do it automatically from then on.
- Feeds your cash forecast. Every promised date you approve goes into your forecast, so you know what’s coming in without entering it yourself.
- Escalates to the account manager. If a customer reaches your final reminder, Trove can send it to their account manager instead, with a summary of every chase so far. That gives you a written record when sales asks for a credit limit increase on a customer who pays late.
Trove’s data across thousands of invoices shows 58% of overdue invoices are paid after one reminder and 80% after two. Getting those first two reminders to the right person matters more than adding a fifth.
The Advanced plan is £285/month, with no revenue bands, and includes multi-entity support and team approvals. See credit control software pricing compared for the full breakdown.
